Laser Therapy

Class 4 Laser Therapy

Green Acres Animal Hospital is proud to provide the option of laser therapy for patients who are experiencing pain, slow healing wounds, arthritis, or chronic ear infections. The Class IV laser reduces inflammation (swelling), improves blood flow and releases natural endorphins.

Because Laser Therapy is not a drug, it can be used for pets who can not take long term anti-inflammatories due to liver or kidney problems. The only pets who can not use laser therapy are those with cancer and those that are pregnant.

Laser Therapy does not hurt and does not emit heat so your pet will probably not even notice the treatments. The therapy usually lasts 10-20 minutes. A technologist will use the laser “wand” to direct the light beam at the area that is causing trouble. Most dogs and cats will simply lie down as the laser is administered. Normally 6 treatments are prescribed with 3 treatments the first week, 2 treatments the second week and 1 treatment the 3rd week. If the laser is being used for a chronic problem then ongoing treatments may be required but the time between treatments usually can be extended over time.
